On The Beach, Acrylic on Paper, 2016

This is a fairly elaborate scene. I’m actually fond of this one. I did each figure on it’s own instead of jumping around, which I think improved each one. I think I may have even gotten the perspective correct, the figures seem correctly sized. That’s a big deal for the time.

If I have any critiques it's that it is a bit busy. But then again there are a ton of other paintings out there with dozens of figures in them and no one bats an eyelash. So maybe this is just fine.

I’m posting every painting I have ever done from 2014 to the present, the good, the bad, and the ugly. With an occasional photograph or sketch thrown in just to mix things up. Check back daily to see my progression as an “artist”!

I think it's a very interesting work. I don't think there's a problem with a "busy" beach painting - I think it should be busy. I think I would have had at least two of the children in the background playing together though. I like it overall though.

Thanks! Yeah, I really should have added some more interaction between the "characters". I don't typically paint anything with multiple subjects, so it didn't occur to me that visual interest is increased when the painting tells a story through the interaction of the subjects. That was a lot of words just to say I need to paint human interaction, not just a bunch of figures!
