My last trip to Vienna was an interesting one, from beginning to end. As I stepped out of the Metro Station, before heading on foot to the Airport, I saw this gorgeous classic car. Of course I had to take a few minutes to grab a few shots.
The airplane could wait...
This is a Volvo 164 and it was only produced between 1968 and 1975. I wasn't even born back then. 😜
This car was designed by Jan Wilsgaard as a luxury version of the Volvo 140 series.
I know this doesn't look like it nowadays but at that time, this little sedan was considered to be a high end car.
One big advantage of these old cars were the strong bodies and bumpers, which were strong enough to make serious damage, in case of an accident.
Nowadays the bumpers and bodies are much weaker for safety reasons and the shock is now absorbed by new technology such as airbags and contraptions that make the motor fall to the ground.
Judging from the rear end and the lack of side lamps, this one was most likely built between 1969 and 1972. In 1973, Volvo changed a few things in order to give it an uplift. Personally, I prefer this older version.
This car is in an amazing condition. Another old timer being very well kept by its owner, no doubt of that. 😊
I took a few last shots, just for the sake of it. It's not every day I see a classic like this.
Afterwards, I quickly glanced at the clock, picked up my bag - which you can see sitting next to that black car - and rushed to the airport. Yep, that's my whole luggage whenever I go on holiday. I always travel lightly. 😁
