in gems •  last month

For sure, there are a lot of one-hit wonders out there. At least those artists with only one hit left a footprint in music industry. However, there are some one-hit wonders which their songs became one hit wonders. People has been dancing in many of these songs, and became phenomenal. Here are some examples of those songs:

Los Del Rio - Macarena
For sure every 1990s kid knew the song "Macarena", and how popular the song has been. Los Del Rio is actually a big example of one-hit wonder. If you checked their discography, you can see the band had 3 songs which made it to any music chart. It's the original version of "Macarena", the remix version which became a number 1 hit, and the Christmas remix of the song. So all the songs of the duo that entered the music charts is Macarena. The song is so huge worldwide being a number 1 in numerous countries, including the Billboard Hot 100.

Las Ketchup - The Ketchup Song (Asereje)
I first heard about this song in a noontime show, and I haven't seen it on MTV yet at that time. Eventually, it became a dance craze despite the controversy surrounding the lyrics of the song. It was a number 1 hit elsewhere in Europe, and its popularity reached the global scale. Thus, it managed to chart in the US. However, it is a minor hit stateside as it only peaked at number 54. It was a big hit in Latin community there though. The trio failed to score another hit despite "Kusha Las Payas" charted in some countries, but at a lower peak.

Silento - Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)
Silento officially a one-hit wonder unless he releases a new single, and chart well. "Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)" is actually his only single released, and had some underperforming collaborations. The song actually became popular initially as a dance craze in the internet, and helped the song chart, and reached number 3 on Billboard Hot 100.

Almost a candidate?
I was thinking of PSY's "Gangnam Style" which was a global success, and a phenomenon. But I think it's unfair for PSY as "Gentleman" became a US top 5 hit, and had more than a billion views on YouTube. However, his subsequent singles after "Gangnam" are behind the shadow of the phenomenal single.
