“And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me” (Luke 9:23 KJV)

It is very easy to miss crucial words when reading the bible, and that is why we are instructed to study the scriptures and not just read them. When you study, every word will carry very weighty meanings and implications. Now, for today’s text, the word “daily” is what qualifies everything we see there. Many people do many things every ones in a while, but what makes the difference is what you do daily.

You should read daily, you ought to learn something new every day, you should practice things pertaining to your profession on a daily basis. That is the only way you can be the best at what you do. But the most powerful daily practice you can embark on as a matter of mission are things that will keep your flesh or self under the control of the Holy Spirit.

Jesus said following Him would be successful if a man could deny himself daily, not occasionally. And this should be your mission on a daily basis.

First make it a mission to pray daily:
When you pray on a daily basis, your flesh will become submissive to the Holy Spirit. Jesus had said that “the flesh is weak, but the spirit is willing”. Meaning that the flesh or self is mostly unwilling, and prayer is what makes it willing; Matthew 26:41.

Commence a mission of daily study of the word:
The more of the word you know, the less likely you will disobey God. David said in Psalm 119:11 that he had hidden God’s word in his heart, so he wouldn’t sin against Him. He earlier asked a question; “how shall a young man cleanse his ways? By taking heed to God’s law...”. Making the word of God a daily affair brings self under control. Let this practices become your daily mission and you will be set for greater works in Jesus Name.
