Good day freewriters! Here is my music themed entry for the freewrite prompt "feeling the love". This 5-Minute Freewrite Challenge was initiated by @mariannewest. Everyone are invited to join in this challenge by checking her profile for the daily prompt, and @freewritehouse.
Back in late 1980s and first half of 1990s, we had Roxette. The duo gained global fame with their melodic songs including "It Must Have Been Love" and "The Look". With their pop rock sound, some artists followed the same route, and I can compare the second half of 1990s produce, Savage Garden.
Yes, Savage Garden is composed of both male artists. But when I heard their self titled first album, I can hear the Roxette style from their music. But of course, Savage Garden is a different kind of artist/s, and they became very successful worldwide. Millenials may not be aware of the duos, but they might be familiar of the tunes below:
Truly, Madly Deeply
"I Want You" was a big hit but this ballad brought the band to superstardom. This beautiful song helped their self title album to sell more, and become one of the biggest sellers of 1998, while the single is one of the most popular songs of the year.
I Knew I Loved You
Who wouldn't forget this beautiful ballad? It's as if the protagonist on the song is "feeling the love" for someone he haven't met. Actress Kirsten Dunst is even in the music video of this song. It became Savage Garden's second Billboard Hot 100 number 1 hit. The song is even often heard in some television shows.
I Want You
The verses in this song is just so fast that I can't hardly sing along then. Anyway, this was their first single, and also their first Billboard hit reaching number 4. Indeed, it is a big hit too.
