Meeting with the past

Once I already started [story] about this amazing steam engine, but it was short and incomplete. In a sense, now you have a remake, but with a different approach to the content and presentation.

Однажды я уже начинал этот [рассказ], но он был коротким и неполным. В некотором смысле перед вами ремейк, но с другим подходом к содержанию и изложению.

I know from where and to where these rails are laid. From St. Petersburg to Ruskealu. True, through Sortavala. But let's start in order.

Я знаю откуда и куда проложены эти рельсы. Из Санкт-Петербурга в Рускеалу. Правда, через Сортавалу. Но начнём всё по порядку.






This sign tells tourists who arrived by train where the park entrance is located. We knew this without a pointer and went the other way. We were already in the park, but we have not seen the engine yet. A well-groomed path led down and to the right. Getting down was easy. Soon we saw the entire train standing at the station. On the right there was a view of some wasteland, quarry and the remains of some buildings. As it turned out later, it was the territory of the plant for burning marble into lime. And they were going to restore it.

Этот указатель рассказывает приехавшим на поезде где находится вход в парк. Мы это знали без указателя и пошли в другую сторону. В парке мы уже были, а паровоз ещё не видели. Ухоженная дорожка вела вниз и вправо. Спускаться было легко. Вскоре мы увидели весь ж/д состав стоящий на станции. Справа открылся вид на какой-то пустырь, карьер и остатки каких-то построек. Как потом оказалось, это была территория завода по пережиганию мрамора в известь. И её собирались восстанавливать.




For me, the station looks unrealistic. Somehow unusually deserted. It looks like Hollywood movies. Now the cowboys will pass by. Where is my Smith & Wesson?

Для меня станция выглядит нереально. Как-то непривычно пустынно. Похоже на голливудские фильмы. Сейчас мимо проскачут ковбои. Где мой Смит-и-Вессон?

This is a real working train. It is driven by steam engines of the 1927 and 1947 years. On it you can get to Ruskeala from Sartavala and back.

Это настоящий рабочий железнодорожный состав. Его тащат паровозы образца 1927 и 1947 годов. На нём можно добраться до Рускеалы из Сартавалы и обратно.




I have never seen a live engine before. He's great. This is a 1948 model car, if I remember correctly. He was restored, he is fully working and continues to work. He does not need electricity. True, he loves to feast on coal. Or maybe it was transferred to liquid fuel? I forgot to ask that... next time.

Я никогда не видел живого паровоза раньше. Он великолепен. Это машина образца 1948 года, если я правильно запомнил. Его восстановили, он полностью рабочий и продолжает трудится. Ему не нужно электричество. Правда он любит полакомиться углём. А может быть его перевели на жидкое топливо? Это я забыл спросить. В следующий раз.





This is a relatively long platform. It is stylized as a station of the late 19th century. Wooden flooring, lights. It's nice. It is worth reaching the end of the platform. There is another locomotive. It is even more ancient, 1927. It will be a 100th anniversary soon. This locomotive is also working. They work on a couple.
Their life began back in the USSR, they are familiar with Joseph Vissarionovich Stalin. I think their work journey was difficult. They are still in service, but it is also a good memory. Witnesses of the history of Russia.

Это относительно длинная платформа. Она стилизована под станцию конца 19 века. Деревянный настил, фонари. Это приятно. Стоит дойти до конца платформы. Там стоит ещё один паровоз. Он ещё более древний, 1927 год. Скоро будет 100-летний юбилей. Этот локомотив тоже рабочий. Они работают на пару.
Их жизнь началась ещё в СССР, они знакомы со Иосифом Виссарионовичем Сталиным. Думаю, их трудовой путь был трудным. Они и сейчас в строю, но это и хорошая память. Свидетели истории России.
