Some of you will know me from my daily posts in freewriting, actifit and dtube. Some of you may have seen the little creatures I create out of felt. But how do I make a living?
Not out of any of the above!
Together with my wife, Andrea, I run a bed and breakfast in the middle of France. It is very small (it has three rooms and an apartment). We aren’t rich by any means, we don’t have any kids so the money we do make is just about enough (although we will probably never be able to retire!)!
We bought the house in 2005 and moved to France from London in 2007. We had done some work before we arrived (the apartment was done) but much of the work we did ourself when we moved (the electrics were done professionally and most of the plumbing too).
I replaced all the single glazed windows with double glazed ones (14 windows!) myself.
I didn’t find any real treasure when renovating the house, but behind a mirror I did find this collection of oddities:
The newpapers are dated 1868 and 1872.
Today I cleaned one of the rooms ready for the next guests. I took this video to show you what it is like:
Running a B&B is a strange thing to do. We don’t have a separate apartment for ourselves so we share the main house with our guests. It can be a bit stressful at times, and the first few times we had guests in it was really weird! Most of the times our guests are delightful but sometimes they can be a trial. We had one lot of guests who let themselves into our living room and helped themselves to our whisky and we have had a couple of things go missing. But in over 10 years nothing too serious.
Peace and love to you all. Steem on!
