Secrets of Organ Playing Contest Week 96 Submission--BWV 604 Gelobet seist du, Jesu Christ from Orgelbuchlein by J.S. Bach

Continuing with the Orgelbuchlein, we have truly entered the Christmas Season with BWV 604. This is a work that, similar to other preludes in the Orgelbuchlein, can be played a variety of ways. The text is a text of rejoicing, but I chose to take the concept of reflection with the words:
Praised be you, Jesus Christ
that you have been born as a man
from a virgin - this is true-
at which the host of angels rejoices.

I thought of this as a moment of prayer rather than jubilance. I chose a slightly slower tempo than most recordings and a reflective registration rather than the full plenum. I hope you enjoy.
