Where Did This Big Black Cloud Come From?

in spirituality •  2 months ago  (edited)

This is quite a gorgeous morning in my part of the world, at least weather wise. The sun is shining brightly from a cloudless sky, and there is a very gentle breeze in the air. Nothing to complain about. In my mind, however, there is a dark gloom, which has been accumulating for the last couple of days. My mood is sour, lethargic, irritable, melancholic, somewhat resignant. As a result, I did not really feel like posting yesterday... or doing anything useful for that matter. It was just one of those days. Sure, this tends to happen sometimes. But this morning I was surprised to find I am not the only one affected.

The Futility of Hitting Buttons

Looking through my feed I kept coming across posts that seemed to have been written from a similarly gloomy mindset. At first it was @steemchiller describing his State of Motivation where I saw some obvious parallels. I can completely relate when he says:

"I'm still wrestling with those energies, but I guess they are more true than I want to realize."

But what I find alarming coming from the creator of SteemWorld is this:

Did we lose the essence of life while we were sitting here all the years, clicking buttons and writing shit to grab some coins?

Okay, so one steemian recognizes the same dark, demotivated mood he's in in another one's posting. So what? Big Deal! But then I scrolled on...

Natural Disasters Conjuring Apocalyptic Feelings

Three of my fellow passengers on the @ecotrain expressed the same dark mood, in three different posts, written around the same time in three different parts of the world:

@riverflows, who lives in Australia, mentions the wildfires that are raging in New South Wales in her Apocalypse Dreaming post. I have heard about this fire crisis, which seems to occur every year, and it seems to be getting increasingly serious each year. Reading through the many apocalyptic film references in her post, however, made the cold shiver run up and down my spine. For real, Halloween could not be this scary!

In Finding Solace: When You Feel Too Much @artemislives tells us about the earthquakes in Northern Thailand, and how it affects animals, in general, according to research, and specifically those ones around her, such as Pete the Mantis she shared images of, or friendly cats that are simply absent. Even though her pictures and description of Pete was fun and light-hearted, and her sharing of the research informative and interesting, I could not ignore the unsettling feeling the earthquake has had on her.

Finally, I noticed the same mood in @trucklife-family's post Embracing the Oncoming Storm. She gives a very detailed description of how she feels, but what had a much deeper impact on me was her poetry. Normally I'm really bad at relating to lyrical verses, but very seldomly it strikes the very spot I've been feeling, and that's exactly what happened here. Though @trucklife-family mentions having to take better care of herself, which of course is always true, I'd still say, there is more at work here than what we do or don't do. At least, that's my impression I get from all these different posts.

What Does This All Mean?

Okay, so maybe there IS some sort of spiritual dark cloud hovering over all of us, affecting our moods. We may relate it to actual things happening around us, though I think it's safe to say we are constantly affected by a bunch of different things, both good and bad. So is there maybe some astrological constellation at the moment? I really don't know jack about the planets, and otherwise I like to keep a good amount of skepticism going regarding divination of any kind... At the same time, I don't want to categorically exclude them either. And so I thought I should take a look at @ekqwel22's Daily Tarot, which I curated in my last Look What I Found post.

I assumed it would give me something completely random and unrelated, to which I could at least make a smart remark, such as lack of correlation does not necessarily indicate lack of causation, but then as I opened up today's Tarot reading I almost dropped the coffee from my hand!

FOUR of PENTACLES
NINE of SWORDS
JUSTICE

Tarot Summary: Take a look at WHAT YOU'RE NOT LETTING GO OF in order to progress SPIRITUALLY. There is NO FEAR when you LIVE IN FAITH. You have NOTHING TO LOSE and EVERYTHING TO GAIN so long as you approach every situation AS ONE and EQUAL to ALL LIFE.

Wow! This reminds me of a Prophecy of Hopi Elders I once read. It talks about a fast flowing river washing away everything in its way. So people naturally tend to hold on to whatever they can on the shore, getting torn apart by the waters as a result. The elders' advice is to swim out into the middle of the river, keeping our heads above the water, letting the river take us to where it needs to go. It's a combination of faith, trust, surrender, perseverance, and positive hope. This way we can overcome the seemingly inescapable consequences of forces that are beyond us.

I would like to keep this idea of us swimming in the raging current in front of my inner eyes, wishing all of my fellow steemians who are going through a similar dark mood, that they may also let go of the shore, surrender to the force of the river, and swim out to where it's flowing freely.

Sometimes you notice how small you really are and how powerful forces in nature are! I am glad that you are still here and can share your experiences 😘

Oh sure, I'm not planing on going anywhere! :-) And while I'm still around I may as well share my experiences.

Interesting observation!
I never really felt it so much for I am always working to keep my energies up when I am working with young children. But there is some sort of recognizing that there is some sort of gloom on the horizon.
I like your analogy from the Hopi prophecy to go with the flow in the turbulent waters. Good one!
Thanks for sharing!

Nice! Yeah, I noticed how many of us seem to be affected by whatever it is that's looming out there. Good to see you're keeping your energies up. By the way, I've been feeling better lately, so it might be actually going away.

Good to hear!

Feeling and appreciating the global connectedness and the solace that comes from resonance. Yes, I felt yesterday as if I had tapped into a great, murky well of feeling - people feeling unsafe and unsteady as the earth shifts beneath their feet: literally and metaphorically, in so many ways. Loving the challenge to launch myself mid stream into the turbulent flow of change. Appreciating the Hopi prophecy and the sense of connection and support those ancestors give me.

It's a new day in Thailand, as I write this... just after dawn. The fast flowing river of change looks enticing rather than foreboding, and I'm honored to have some mighty fine travelling companions on the way!!

Thank you for such a positive and heart-warming comment. This should chase any clouds away, I'm sure!

Ah... hence my name, a reminder of the flowing river. To let go, to flow. A thoughtful response and one that sends me onwards to read the others you mentioned! The storm has passed now.. the birds are singing and it is a new day.

Ah, so that's where your screen name comes from. Awesome! I was wondering about this actually as I was finishing up this post, thinking: "river - river?" but then I thought... nah, it could have so many reasons. I'm glad to see that it has to do with the Hopi prophecy, after all. :-)

I can't recover rc if I keep finding great posts. Staying away for two or three days does not help. I'd have to take a seven day break. 😂😂

That doesn't sound so bad, actually. And it's impossible to upvote EVERY SINGLE great post. So no one's gonna take it badly if you leave some out in favor of others. Thanks for stopping by!

Anytime a natural disaster is coming on or a bad storm i feel it and its like an animalistic instinct.

And we are animals, after all, so we really should be feeling it. The key part is not to ignore it, or blame it on something else, but embrace our instincts and listen to them, like any animal should.

there is so much been brought to the surface right now all over the world, it is part of the healing process really, we just have to let ourselves feel it and flow with it as you say, to surrender xxxxx

Ah, the purge analogy: we may have to go through a bit of collective vomiting to get rid of all the nastiness that's making us feel bad. But as horrible as the process may be, after puking we tend to feel a lot better.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one in this funk. I've been avoiding putting it down in words, so as not to be a whiner or a negative Nelly. Struggling to see a wary through the clouds at the moment, though.

Right? Of course, it's easy to think you're the only one who's feeling it, but once people from around the world start sharing the same sensation, you know that there must be more. Though the good news is, I feel much better these days, so I think that cloud is moving on.
